Title: Senior IT Operations Specialist
Department: IT
Reports to: IT Manager

UMBC Training Centers is the premier provider of technical, engineering and professional skills training in the Mid-Atlantic region for individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies. The Senior IT Training Operations Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that UMBC Training Centers’ systems and networks fully support the operations of the company, focusing on functionality, business continuity, and security. In addition to keeping existing systems operational and secure, the Senior IT Training Operations Specialist will proactively look for ways to utilize technology to improve the student experience and Training Centers’ overall operational effectiveness.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Networking, or related area of study preferred.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • User-centric mentality with superior customer relationship and communication skills
  • Strong TCP/IP switching and routing skills; JNCIS or equivalent experience
  • Strong Linux system administration skills; RHCE or equivalent experience
  • Superior problem solving abilities
  • Able to self-manage, self-motivate, and meet deadlines
  • The desire and technical aptitude to continuously learn new technologies
  • Experience with virtualization (e.g. KVM), cloud platforms (e.g. OpenStack and AWS), and configuration management tools (e.g. SaltStack) is a plus
  • Able to thrive in a team-first environment and maintain focus on individual tasks
  • 3+ years of recent experience in Linux systems administration and TCP/IP networking in a production environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Job Duties:

  • Support all laptops, desktops, servers, virtual machines, firewalls, routers, switches, access points, other hardware, and software to maintain 24/7 access for teammates and training operations
  • Troubleshoot network, system performance, and security issues
  • Assist in maintaining a network and system disaster recovery plan and the ability to execute it when necessary
  • Provide technical support as needed / on-call
  • Work with the IT team on tasks and projects to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer experience
  • Build, deploy, and support lab environments for a wide variety of technical courses
