IT Systems Support Technician

UMBC Training Centers is the premier provider of technical, engineering and professional skills training in the Mid-Atlantic region for individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies.
The IT Systems Support Technician’s primary responsibility is ensuring the proper setup and execution of all UMBC Training Centers daytime courses. This role constantly strives to improve the student experience and improve the overall operational efficiency of course deployments. Additionally, the IT Systems Support Technician is responsible for handling technical support requests from students, instructors, and teammates. The IT Systems Support Technician must have the flexibility to work with a high degree of autonomy while maintaining a team-first mentality and providing exceptional customer service.
IT Systems Support Technician Hours: Mon-Fri 7:15 am – 3:15 pm
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- A degree, non-credit certificate, and/or at least one year of experience in systems administration or TCP/IP networks
- User-centric mentality with superior customer service and communication skills
- The desire and technical aptitude to continuously learn new technologies
- Ability to stay on task with minimal direction
- Superior troubleshooting abilities
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems and TCP/IP networking
- Must be a U.S. citizen
Job Duties
- Provide the first response–often first thing in the morning–to triage and provide technical support to instructor, student, and teammate requests
- Assist in supporting all laptops, desktops, virtual machines, software, and A/V hardware to maintain training operations in all of UMBC Training Center’s labs
- Troubleshoot–often via remote tools–student and instructor issues with Ubuntu, Windows, virtual machines, networking, etc.
- Answer teammate support requests related to issues with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Office 365, Azure Active Directory, Intune, etc.
- Work with the IT team on tasks and projects to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer experience
- Utilize tools such as Canonical’s MAAS, Git, Saltstack, Bash, etc. to build, deploy, and support Ubuntu Linux lab environments for a wide variety of technical courses
