Making AI Stick: Change Management and Adoption Strategies for AI Initiatives

Overview

Most organizations investing in AI are focused almost entirely on the technology — the model, the platform, the integration. What consistently derails those investments is something the technology budget never covers: the human beings expected to change how they work.

Research across enterprise AI deployments consistently finds that adoption failure is rarely a technical problem. It is a change problem. Employees don't trust the system. Managers don't reinforce new behaviors. Nobody explained what happens to their role. The communication was too early, too late, or aimed at the wrong people. The training taught the tool but not the mindset.

This seminar gives leaders, managers, and change practitioners the frameworks, tools, and hands- on practice to close that gap — and to build the kind of AI adoption culture that compounds over time rather than stalling at the pilot stage.

Format Options

Available as a 1 Day Intensive or 2 Day Practitioner Workshop:

1-Day Intensive  |  ~7 contact hours

Designed for senior leadership teams, intact project teams, or organizations that need a rapid capability injection. Covers all six core topics in compressed, high-density sessions with one major hands-on workshop (stakeholder mapping and resistance analysis) and a practical takeaway toolkit. Best for: executives and senior practitioners who need frameworks fast. Not ideal for participants who need sustained practice time.

2-Day Practitioner Workshop  |  ~14 contact hours

The full experience. Adds two additional hands-on workshops (communication strategy and adoption measurement), deeper case study analysis, peer critique, and a capstone planning session where participants draft a change plan for their own organization's AI initiative. Best for: project teams, change practitioners, and L&D professionals who will execute — not just oversee — AI adoption programs.

Who Should Take This Course

Audience

  • Technology and IT leaders managing AI rollouts
  • Project and program managers on AI initiatives
  • HR, L&D, and organizational development professionals
  • Change managers entering AI-intensive environments
  • Middle managers responsible for team AI adoption

Prerequisites

Participants should have experience managing IT system and tool deployments in an enterprise operational setting, as well as experience and working knowledge of AI systems and tools.

Works Especially Well For

  • Organizations preparing for or mid-way through an AI deployment
  • Teams that have deployed AI tools with lower-than-expected adoption
  • Government agencies navigating AI workforce transformation
  • Corporate L&D teams building AI fluency programs at scale
  • Organizations with no formal change management practice for AI

What Participants Leave With

  • A practical understanding of why AI adoption fails — and the patterns that predict it — so they can diagnose and correct course before failure becomes visible.
  • A working ADKAR-based change framework applied specifically to AI, ready to use on their current or next initiative.
  • A stakeholder and resistance map for a real or realistic AI scenario — completed during the workshop.
  • A communication strategy skeleton: the messages, personas, channels, and sequence that give AI initiatives the best chance of gaining and holding trust.
  • Concrete tools for designing training that changes behavior — not just awareness.
  • A draft adoption measurement framework: what to track, when to track it, and what to do when the numbers tell you adoption is stalling.
  • A network of peers facing the same organizational challenges, with a shared vocabulary for addressing them

Instructor Experience

  • SESSION 2: The ADKAR Framework Applied to AI• Prosci ADKAR: Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, Reinforcement — what each means for AI specifically• Where most AI initiatives stall (hint: it’s Desire and Reinforcement)• Kotter’s 8 Steps: creating urgency without creating fear• Application exercise: diagnosing your own initiative against ADKAR
  • SESSION 3: AI Readiness Assessment• The five dimensions of organizational AI readiness: data, talent, process, governance, culture• Organizational archetypes and their change maturity profiles• Self-assessment tool: where are you on the AI Adoption Journey?• Building the adoption roadmap: phasing change to match absorptive capacity
  • WORKSHOP: Stakeholder Mapping and Resistance Architecture• Persona-based stakeholder mapping for AI initiatives• The psychology of resistance: threat appraisal, identity disruption, and loss aversion• Resistance heat map: who will resist, how, and why• The manager layer: adoption multiplier or adoption blocker?• Small group work: complete a stakeholder map for a real or scenario-based AI initiative
  • Day 1 Synthesis and Preview — Key Takeaways, Questions, Setup for Day 2

Day 2: Design and Execution
