SysML v2 Introduction

Overview

SysML v2 Introduction gives systems engineers a practical starting point for creating precise, connected models of complex systems. Participants learn how a shared model clarifies system intent, structure, behavior, and verification. The course uses a realistic system scenario to connect engineering decisions to requirements and evidence. As a result, teams can discuss the same system without relying on disconnected documents or informal diagrams.

The first day establishes the language and its modeling approach. Attendees explore packages, definitions, usages, and specialization before building a system decomposition. Next, they model parts, ports, interfaces, and connections to describe how system elements relate. Guided labs introduce both textual notation and graphical views, so students can read and create models in the form that best supports the task.

Day two connects structure to system behavior and technical intent. Participants model actions, flows, states, and interactions to explain how a system operates. Additionally, they capture requirements, constraints, and verification cases in the same model. This creates traceable links between a need, the design that addresses it, and the evidence used to assess it.

The final modules focus on model organization, collaboration, and review. For example, students create views for different stakeholders and inspect the relationships behind each view. They also complete a capstone lab that joins requirements, architecture, behavior, and verification in one small model. The resulting practices help engineers adopt SysML v2 deliberately while keeping models understandable and useful.

Who Should Take This Course

Prerequisites

Attendees should understand basic systems engineering concepts, including requirements, system decomposition, interfaces, and verification. Experience with UML, SysML v1, or another modeling tool is helpful but not required.

Why You Should Take This Course

Upon completing SysML v2 Introduction, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain the role of SysML v2 in a model-based systems engineering approach
  • Organize reusable system models with packages, definitions, usages, and imports
  • Model system structure with parts, ports, interfaces, and connections
  • Express system behavior with actions, flows, states, and interactions
  • Capture requirements, constraints, and verification cases in a connected model
  • Write and interpret SysML v2 textual notation alongside graphical views
  • Trace requirements through architecture, analysis, and verification elements
